Setting up email accounts

Setting up an email account in Outlook Express

  1. Select Tool > accounts
  2. Click the mail tab
  3. Select Add > Mail
  4. Enter Display Name e.g. 'Joe Bloggs'
  5. Click next
  6. Enter email dddress e.g. 'info@yourdomain.co.uk'
  7. Click next
  8. Enter these details: My incoming mail server is a POP3
    Incoming mail: pop.yourdomain.co.uk
    Outgoing mail: smtp.yourdomain.co.uk
  9. Click next
  10. Enter Account name e.g: info@yourdomain.co.uk and the password that you have been given
    DO NOT CHECK Log on using Secure Password Authentication
  11. Click Next
  12. Click Finish
  13. In the Internet Accounts pane which should still be on screen
    Highlight the account pop.yourdomain.co.uk and click properties
  14. Select the Servers tab
  15. Check the My server requires authentication
  16. Click the settings button and select ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server'
  17. Click OK the pane will close
  18. Click OK on the other pane
  19. Close the Internet Accounts pane
These are all the settings you need. To test the settings send an email to yourself - this way you can test sending and receiving.


Setting up an email account in Outlook 2000
  1. Select ‘Tools' from the menu
  2. Select Accounts
  3. Click ‘Add' and then select ‘Mail'
  4. Enter a descriptive name of the account
  5. Click next. A dialog box asking for your email address will appear. Enter your email address e.g.
  6. Click Next. A dialog box asking for your email server names will appear.
  7. Enter: pop.yourdomain.co.uk for Incoming mail
  8. Enter: smtp.yourdomain.co.uk Outgoing mail server.
  9. Click the Next button.
  10. A dialog box asking for your email logon name and password for this account will appear. Enter your email address and password that you have been provided.
  11. Click the "Next" button. A dialog box asking how you connect to the internet will appear as shown below. Select I will establish my Internet Connection Manually.
  12. Click Next
  13. Click the "Finish" button
  14. You will see the Internet Accounts dialog box. Click on the account that you just created and select "Properties". The below dialog box will appear
  15. Click on the Servers tab. The below dialog box below will appear. Check the "My server requires authentication" checkbox and click the "Settings" button next to it.
  16. Check the "My server requires authentication" checkbox and click the "Settings" button next to it.
  17. Click Ok - that's it. Close any other windows that are open.



Having trouble sending emails?

If you are having trouble sending emails please follow the instructions below:
  1. Select Tool > accounts
  2. Click the mail tab
  3. Highlight the account pop.yourdomain.co.uk and click properties
  4. Select the Advanced tab
  5. Enter 587 where it says Outgoing mail (SMTP)
  6. Click OK
  7. Close the Internet Accounts pane
